PDL-based framework for reasoning about actions

چکیده
Propositional Dynamic Logics PDL s provide a suitable formal framework for modeling actions and reasoning about them How ever the basic language of PDL s lack several features that are impor tant for a sophisticated treatment of actions In this paper we present a new logic that is obtained by enriching the basic PDL with powerful modeling constructs that allow us to represent determinism and non determinisms concurrency hierarchies mutual exclusion backward ex ecution and non execution of actions We demonstrate by means of examples the expressive power of the formalism In particular we show that although nonmonotonicity is not generally captured by PDL s our logic is perfectly suited for exploiting monotonic solutions to the frame problem Finally we establish that the proposed formalism is decidable and that the basic reasoning problems are EXPTIME complete

Reasoning about Types of Action and Action Capabilities
We present a logical system for reasoning about types of actions (processes) and about agent capabilities to execute types of actions. The syntax of the system is based on that of Propositional Dynamic Logic (PDL), though the semantics we define is different (interpreting process terms as types, i.e. sets of binary relations). The standard PDL syntax is extended with capabilities statements, as...
متن کاملEfficient reasoning about actions based on assignments and announcements
We propose a reasoning about actions framework based on a combination of epistemic logic and star-free PDL, into which we integrate Reiter’s solution to the frame problem. We then show that prediction (alias plan verification) can be reduced in polynomial time to dynamic epistemic logic with assignments that has recently been proposed by Kooi et al.. We establish decidability and complexity res...
متن کاملEpistemic Actions and Ontic Actions: A Unified Logical Framework
We present a reasoning about actions framework based on a sum of epistemic logic S5 and propositional dynamic logic PDL together with a ‘no forgetting’ principle, also called perfect recall. We show that in our framework an action may be decomposed into a purely ontic action followed by a purely epistemic action. We also show that the latter is completely definable in terms of simple observatio...

متن کاملReasoning about Protocol Change and Knowledge
In social interactions, protocols govern our behaviour and assign meaning to actions. In this paper, we investigate the dynamics of protocols and their epistemic effects. We develop two logics, inspired by Propositional Dynamic Logic (PDL) and Public Announcement Logic (PAL), for reasoning about protocol change and knowledge updates. We show that these two logics can be translated back to the s...
